Headphones that don't require an amp?

The $99 MS-1 are a great choice and mine run just fine without an amp from every source I've tried as well. The $300 MS2i are within the price range quoted and unlike most Grado models sell for that same price in the UK. The MS2i sound pretty good without an amp, but they are a bit happier with a bit of boost.

The MS2i are capable of reproducing most every type of music out there, but just happen to fall a tad short on the largest of the classical numbers due to a somewhat restrictted soundstage.

As the title suggests, .$200-300, . I can't afford good quality headphones and a good quality amp. BTW any headphones you suggest would have to be available to buy in the UK, or atleast be shipped overseas. Thanks in advance.

Maybe that's not so. You can get the Stax SRM1-001MKII electrostatic from Japan for about $239.00 from Audiocubes, amp and phones combined! While this is a portable system and would be ideal for that application, it could be very good with a home system. Stax sells a home system using a different amp but the same phones for $399.00 ordered from Japan.

This is something definitely worth considering, as you are in the UK.
