Hello,
 
I'm going to buy new headphones and I'm looking for your advice. They'll be mostly used for gaming (~70%), some music (~30) and will be used with my Xonar Essence ST. I would prefer closed headphones, but it doesn't really matter because they will only used at home
 
My budget is roughly 400€ (I'm from Germany), but I'm willing to pay a bit more if it's worth it.
 
My last headphones were the Sennheiser 25-1 II and I liked them, but they were lacking bass and very uncomfortable.
 
After researching I tought these ones were interesting:
Denon AH D2000 (really hard to get here, ~330€)
Sennheiser HD650 [~350€)
Beyerdynamic DT990 (~200€)
Ultrasone Pro 900 (~375€)
 
Which one would you recommend considering the sound card and the purpose? Sadly, I don't have many options to listen to them in my area.

HD650 DT990 660Ohm would be the most optimal ones.
 
With a budget of €400, any of the headphones with over 150Ohms will be a good choice. If you thought the HD25 lacked in bass, you might want to go for DT770 in 250Ohm. HD25-II isn't bass light for sure.

Good clarity, should be a good FPS gaming headphone for you
The K550 32-Ohms is not the best match for the 10-Ohm output impedance of the Essence ST (& STX).
But my K550 sounds fine plugged into my Essence STX.

Not as much a music headphone (compared to others), but good clarity, should be a good FPS headphone.

 
I should have mentioned it in the first post, but altough I play some FPS games I mostly play single player games (often RPGs).
Did you ever have the chance to compare the AKG with some of the more expensive ones like the HD650?

After researching a bit more, I think the Ultrasone Pro 900 could be the right one for me.
 
As mentioned in the first post, I like a lot of bass and they are also closed, which could come in handy while playing with others.
 
How well do they do in games, especially RPGs with a lot of orchestral music?
Is the Xonar Essence ST a good match?
 
They are quite expensive (~375€). Are they worth it (in comparison to other headphones like the HD650 or the DT990)?

As a Denon owner, I can only comment on the D2000s, which I can highly recommend. I play a ton of games on PC and listen to music often whilst doing so or while multitasking. I had them hooked up to a Sound Blaster PCI-E soundcard, without any of the processing offered by the card turned on. Fun pair of cans in my opinion. I thought the bass had a pretty good oomph to it that wasn't too intrusive. The sound may be a bit biased towards hard rock, hip-hop and most mainstream music, but I didn't really have any qualms listening to some orchestral video game soundtracks with them.
 
As for gaming, they performed great, and that's about all I can say about them without better context. They've served me well with everything from Battlefield and DotA to The Witcher and Skyrim.
