I am looking for a solid set of portable phones, that could be used amped or unamped with an iPod as a source. I wear a hearing aid so canalphones are out. My hearing is approximately 80% that of normal individuals so I am hoping for headphones to accommadate. I think closed phones would be better as I tend to listen to music a t a volume louder than the average listener and I plan on using them in settings where there will be other people who I don't wish to bother. Any recommendations for phones and added accessories for someone like me would be much appreciated. As far as music taste is concerned, I am just getting into music now and want headphones suitable for a wide range of musical genres. Feedback much appreciated.

Some indications on the price you are ready to pay would help

If price is not an issue - go Audio Technica L3000!

Sennheiser PX200 might be ideal. Or the HD-25-1's.

Circumaural would probobly be a better fit, but my personal hearing aids are essentially the tip of a canalphone and don't protrude out of the ear canal. Phones that rest over the ear would be accommadating. I am also curious about the senn HD 280's for their ability to keep sound from leaking into the environment. Any thoughts?

I have a pair of HD280's and I listen to my music sometimes at high volume and sometimes my wife walks into the room and can't tell whether or not I have music playing at the moment. So I would say they have some of the best isolation as far as leakage. I hope this helps.
