Hello,

I'm considering a new pair of headphones. They will be 50% music and 50% movies and games. My preferences go to closed headphones. I plan to feed them through a X-fi. As head-amp I only have the headphone output of a Behringer UB802 mixer; it has plenty of power but I don't know anything about its quality. I do not plan to buy any other head-amp.

I have limited the search to audio-technica a900 and dt770-80 pro. Looking through ebay (distributed in Europe) I have found them for the following prices:

a900: 199 EUR
dt770-80 pro: 110 EUR

My first choice goes to a900 (considering my all-around uses and audio ring) but the difference in the prices make me wonder if the dt770 will be a better deal.

Any opinions will be welcome...

Thanks!

I have extensive experience with both of those models, and while I like the 770s a lot, the A900s are much more balanced.

They're worlds easier to drive without an amp, too (the 80 ohm figure on the 770s is misleading- they're still not an easy drive).
