Are SR60s the way to go, or is there a better alternative for my price range?

my suggestion is alessandro ms-1, nice cans especially with rock and metal and good for everything else except with soundstage
but i think sr60 is nice bang for buck cans

I've never listened to the SR-60s but I'd say either get those or the MS1s.

i have sr-60's and they are awsome for rock. The only drawbacks i can find with the sr60 is that other people can hear what your listening to and they are in no way noise canceling.

I really like my 595 for rock.
Do you think they lack punch or do you want more bass/treble?
