Another head-fi newbie here begging for help, sorry to say..

Since I have finally managed to accumulate decent amount of various greenish paper pieces, I decided this would be a good time to waste it on something that'll completely piss the wife off.

I'm almost completely listening to metal bands (Iron Maiden, Metallica, Megadeth, Rammstein, Danzig, Opeth, etc.) or hard rock (AC/DC, etc.).

Possible headphone candidates: Grado SR325i, AKG 701s, DT990s.

For reference, I'm currently using HD590s and I have always thought that they sound a bit... boring I might say.

This is my opinion. I tried grados and loved them. I tried akgs and then found them to be unbananced. (even in rock)

While im a rock junkie i prefer to listen to rock through the akgs than grados just because they sound more like the actuall recording.

For myself im getting the akg 601s & headfive combo later on. At the moment im looking for a deal on some new 601s. Northern sound and light wont ship to australia!

im so sad!!!

This is just my opinion and people would argue that grados are supreme at rock because of their impact.

Grado is the obvious chioce for cans...the amp is up for discussion...but for now, keep an eye out on the FS forum or, if you can't wait, grab a 225 or 325

I just bought pre 2005 Beyer dt 990 pros and love them. I don't listen to alot of metal but can tell you Rammstien sounded awesome. I am looking for an amp and if you don't need a portable check this thread out http://www6.head-fi.org/forums/showthread.php?t=191432 that sounds like a reasonable costing amp. There is also a set of 990's in the for sale forums for $115. It seems like alot of people want the 2005 model (all the specs are the same). If you really want to piss off the wife, buy a blow up doll to use as a headphone stand for your new cans....lol

I own the Senn 595 and feel they are boring for rock as well. I have the HF-1and they are perfect for rock. Get some Grados.
