Hi, Im a newb looking for some advice. Im getting an mp3 player to take with me when i go out running or jogging, and I would like to get a nice pair of headphones to go with it. It seems like a lot of people on here like the porta pro, and with the coupon it would be the perfect price for me, but my only concern with them is the size. Are they practical to wear when working out? Any recommendations for headphones that wont get in the way, and are sub $50? thanks for any help

I would say they are definitely small enough for working out. I find them quite comfortable and you'd probably forget you had them on (except for the cool tunes coming out of them

).

The only thing I can say is that the foam covering the earcups might get a little funked up if you sweat a lot. But then again, the only other solution would be some earbuds. For me, earbuds don't stay in place when I'm very active so it's not evenn an option. The sound from the PortaPros is probably superior to anything else you could get in an earbud under $50.

I use a pair of koss ksc-35's while jogging.. great little clip-on style headphones.. but next to impossible to get now that they've been replaced by the ksc-50.. though i dunno how good the 50's would be for jogging as the clip on those are meant to be a tad looser than the 35's

The KSC-50s are pretty bad for jogging: the clips just don't stay on your ears. I'd first take a look at the mx500s. Some will tell you that they like to fall out, but others find them to stay in. I belong to the second category.

I took my Portapros for a run a few days ago...they worked pretty well, but I think the KSC-35's would work better (though they're hard to get a hold of now). The [Portapros] had a tendency to bounce out of place. My old Sony buds would always fall out when I ran with them, though I'm considering getting a pair of MX400s and seeing how those work...

PX100 or PX200. No amp needed. Seems to stay on the head well enough for jogging.

Cheers,

I have the MX-500's. They are lousy for jogging. Great sound, great price, but they keep falling out. Without the foamies, they fell out like once a minute. With the foamies on, it was less, but still enough to be quite irritating. I'm trying to focus on running, not whether the damn earphones are falling out or not.

If you are hell bent on gettng the MX-500/400, I'd say at least borrow some from someone and trying jogging with them before you buy.

In fact, I'm gonna go out and get a somthing else for jogging use: there the Sony EX-70 or the KSC-50/55.

i find that the ksc-50's stick on my head great, i just had to bend the clips toward my ear before putting them on. now i can shake my head and do whatever and they don't fall off. the sound isn't amazingly impressive, but they work well for working out and laying down. i keep wondering about these new sennheiser px100 and px200 and wonder if those would be a better call.

Bounce out of place? Mine are great when I jog. They don't even come close to threatening to bounce out of place. It must be a difference in our head size or something

Maybe. I don't think I have a very big head or ears. The trail I run on is pretty bumpy and rough though, so they tended to bump around on my head and I had to adjust them a lot. I wish they still made KSC-35's

Maybe EX-70's would work best for me.

I wouldn't use closed phones of any type for jogging, for safety reasons.

I agree with fiddler. Your gonna get hit by a car, and never know it. I use my Sony Streestyle G-52s. GREAT FOR JOGGING!!.. whenever i do cardio, i bring them along. Never fall off. Hmm, my friend has the 'sport' version of the streetstyle. Don't know what model it is. The 'pads' that cover the earfones are made of a special material that wicks sweat. I dont know tho. Usually clean my 52s once every one or two weeks. Don't want them to get all nasty. I just get a wet cloth and wipe them down. Err but yeah, Sound quality aint good. And if you wear them for a while, your ears hurt. Perhaps another 'behind the back' style earfones?

...
derek
