Headphones for DETAIL

The more detailed headphones are IMO the SA5K, CD3K, and the Editions...

Check out the K340s too if you can. They are pretty detailed, without being too in-your-face.

Out of Punnisher's selection, I'd say it's a tie between DT880 and K701.

Yes and no. IMO every electrostat has also a midfi section, mostly in the bass region.

Don't know about the Editions, but I regard the "higher resolution" of the Sonys as fake due to boosted highs. The DT880 works out more real details. But I do like the CD3K better anyway.

Detail and bass extension are all there - which was the original interest...bass impact - can be very disappointing. 4070, O2, EH's can delivery plenty - others...not so much.

For me, it's the Edition 9... and soon to be UE11. Now I'm done.

Thanks for the replies. I'll admit that I'm heavily leaning towards Grados. Which one is another story. It's also unfortunate that I can't try out the k701 or the 880s around here. I don't know of any hi-fi shops in northeast Ohio.

How is the soundstage on the 880s and the k701? I've heard the 701 has a pretty vast soundstage, which is good. I know the grados are more forward, but that's ok too.

K701's soundstage is HUGE! DT880s have decent soundstage, while grados virtually have none (at least below 325i)

Exactly as above. Grados are right in your ear, at least my old HHf-1 were and apparently others too. K701 can be excellent if sourced properly. They are worth a recable too, big* improvement in the standard, rolled off or reccessed treble.

*To me ears and values.

I don't know, it seems I'm torn between the k701 and 325i. I'm just so addicted to the sound of my SR60s. How similar would you say the 60's are to the 325i? I'd like more of the same, just better.

I'm really leaning towards the Grado, just because I'm afraid to get something with too little low-end. My 60's have good punchy bass, which is what I'd like to keep.

I know you didn't list any IEMs in there but if you're just looking for pure detail there's *very* little that has more detail than the Etymotic ER4S or the UE10s for that matter..

On the Grado thing I completely agree. They just have a different balance/presentation.

I dont know about the 880 but between the 701 and the 650 the 701 does have a huge sound stage but for overall realism I would have to give it to the 650. Also the 650 will be a more enjoyable can for extended listening periods. Dont get me wrong, I love my 701s but the 650s get more use and for me they seem to be a better all around can. Maybe if you have a cool Zana amp like Uncle Erik then maybe.
