Headphones for computer gaming?

Not sure how old this thread is, but the SK.swe CS team did use High end Sennheiser headphones (either 600's or 650's) before they left SK. The SK.swe team just disbanded and reformed as NiP.

umm besides that, I use my Sony V6 and they are great for gaming. Portable, closed, good bass, and durable. If you ever take them out to lans, or anywhere really they are easy to pack and perform on the same level as sennheisers for gaming IMO. (note i only directly compared them to HD570s for gaming)

Wait, are Ultrasones any good for gaming? The marketing talk seems to give the impression...some sort of surrounding thingy (S-surround?). I think they cost quite a bit more than $200...and they look flimsy too. Like they might break if you take them on and off alot.

I wonder if having good phones is like cheating...

They're not bad for gaming. But I believe my senns are significantly better than my ultrasones.

SK was sponsored by Sennheiser. The SK organization was built around the success of their CS team (in my opinion, this is arguable though). It will be interesting to see if Sennheiser switches over and sponsors NiP now.

Also, I've noticed in past interviews almost the entire team used HD600s, but according to recent photos, it appears they have all upgraded to the 650s (with the exception of Hyper, but he only just recently joined SK).

if you liked them closed, I can suggest nothing better then a900's. that and an mx1000 or mx510 in your hands and you might as well be hacking with positioning and aim ;-)

my roomate used to us his HD25-1's for CS I let him borrow my a900's and he fell in love with them, he went to winter CPLs in viGor if that doesn't say something... what does?

so in the end, I'd say a900's or hd25-1's as my suggestion

Some pros do, becuase they don't really know any better, kinda sad really.

But if I had to suggest on a pair of cans for gaming, I would definitely recommend the HD280pro. It isolates great and the positional audio on it is well done. After you get used to the slight clamping, they are quite comfy for extended use. Although your ears might get a little warm, that is normal for closed cans. I've been using mine for almost 2 weeks now and I wish I had them for when I went to QuakeCon last year. They would have really been handy in the tourney area at the time.

they are good, they have a better soundstage than the zalman, but for some reason i always experienced sound problems with it, it works fine on my server however, another one of my friends uses them and I use my MS-2.
They do have a 360 degree soundstage i guess, but its more of an oval shape, you can hear any sound that is made on the map in call of duty (well most of them), and its dead easy to tell if its coming infront or behind you but harder to pick the distance, if theyre close you will know.

I have a pair of MS-2 and the MS-2 dont have quite as good soundstage, but its good enough for me because the sound quality just ****s on it for music

I havent really heard any phones with a better soundstage yet but the cans i have actually listened to are quite limited.

I think we scared hobojoe away. Still there?

For casual gamers (professional gamers/sponsored gamers what is this world coming to?) maybe an old Sony wireless surround headphone setup like the MDRDS2000 or the slightly newer 3000. AKG makes a line of wireless surround headphones as well...hearo something...I've not heard them.

The transmitter decodeds Dolby 5.1 and DTS. Sound is still from 2 speakers but processed to sound like 4 channels. It works okay, but a true 5.1 setup with cheap speakers still has better effect. Sounds are actually pretty good from my Sony setup. Music...ehhhhhh. Its got a headphone plug that sounds like a basic PPA. With the processor on the headphone out it gets wierd though.

No wires!! I used to play off a LCD projector, wireless controller, and wireless headphones. Immersion. No leaning forward to check out details on those 14" screens. Try http://www.tomshardware.com/howto/20041113/index.html for something on the cheap.
