HEADPHONES>>>best bang for the buck
Jan 10, 2007 at 6:20 PM Post #16 of 43
All the phones in my sig. Wouldn't sell any of them. having said that, the best bang for the buck is the K501 ($99), HD580 ($125), and DT880 ($150). All of these phones can compete with the best of them.

I'll be the first to mention the K81DJ. A great headphone at $70 and even better at $55.

I would say any of the popular choices under $70, incl KSC75, SR60, or AKGK81DJ. Sometimes you have to spend a LOT more to get more enjoyment.

Who sells the ksc-75 other than Radioshack? Also, they are selling the pro 35T for less than the ksc-75 - is it better?

I want cheap decent headphones for work

Amazon has them from $13 to $19 depending on barometric pressure or some other variable I can't pin down. Last I looked they where $17 but that's changed by now.

BTW= Amazon has the version with no volume control.

If this thread gets enough legs, you will soon see at least one recommendation for practically any pair of headphones in current production, as well as some for out of prodution headphones! ...

Other than things like the KSC75 (which are pretty hard to agrue with because of their price), you won't find any consensus of opinions.

Word!

If the question is "Bang for Buck," the KSC75 wins. I've never heard anyone say they where not a great value. After that it gets muddy.

Thanks for the info...

I was looking for a brick and mortar place where I can pick up right away. I don't mind the few extra dollars it will cost.

I'm afraid they are all gone or could anyone point me in the direction of a new pair.

Best bang for the buck headphone I ever, ever bought, and will never be de-throned i suspect, was the Yamaha HP-50A orthodynamic. Had to reterminate it to stereo and made a small profit on it, but wish I'd never sold it.

KSC75 and PX100 certianly excellent value for money too.

Picked up a KSC-75 last night from Radioshack (I'm impatient and wanted one now, so I paid a little more than $20

)
. Just started listening this morning at work. I wasn't expecting much at all and was suprised to hear some sparkle in the highs, a solid midrange, and tight bass. For the money, they are great.

However, I'd say the K-1000 that competes with the best headphones in the world at $850 or so that I got them for new slightly before new ones were gone.

I'd say the HE-90, 02, K-1000 are the 3 best and do certain things so well that I can't really pick one and say it tops the other.

as a rule of thumb, "bang for buck" doesnt apply to $1000+ top of the line gear in this sense... lol

another vote for the grado sr60 and sr80. better than any other headphone i've gotten for under $100... never tried AKG K501s though...

marshmallows are really really great for the price. my only complaint with something that really pisses me off about them is the bass drums drown out the synthesized bass guitars on rap songs.
