My budget is up to $500 and I'd prefer the headphones be more on the portable side. Either open or closed back options are fine- I'm more interested in sound quality over sound leakage xD

As the title suggests, I listen to mostly EDM and rock, although I do listen to a wide variety of other genres. I'm looking for a pair of headphones that have punchy bass (like when the beat drops or the guitar rift kicks in, you can really feel it), but not necessarily 'loud' bass, if that makes any sense. Like some headphones are clearly bass forward, but the bass just sounds muddy and loud and doesn't have an actual kick to it. It would be nice to be able enjoy the little nuances in a song (vocals, other instruments ect.) and then bam! No idea if that makes any sense, or if headphones like that exist, but here's hoping =)

Meze 99 Noir on Massdrop. 200 bucks - steal. Comes with 2 sets of pads. I recommend the smaller ones. Everything else that immediately comes to mind isn't what I'd consider portable.

I wouldn't mind giving up portability for sound quality =)
How much portability do you need?
Headphones that fit into a jacket pocket or fanny pack or backpack or briefcase?
I think the Audio Technica ATH-WS99 headphones are good portable bassy headphones.
