Can anybody give me any headphone suggestions for the EMU 0404 USB? I've been leaning towards the HD650s + 0404 USB because I've heard that they match well, but was wondering what other headphones pair nicely with the 0404. I'm looking for a pair of headphones for music, and another pair of headphones for games/movies. Also I was wondering if the K701s/601 could also be driven sufficiently with the 0404's built-in amp as well.

The HD650's go very well with the 0404 as well as the Soundblaster SX USB. I still use an amp though (iBasso T1) so that should be okay with the k701/601 as well.

IMHO, the 0404 USB's built-in amp is just barely adequate for HD600's at my personal listening level (on acoustic/classical music, for the most part.) If you listen to material that is "mastered hot", it does sound "louder"........but it's easily bested by a nearly-maxed-out PIMETA in bass and dynamics.

I owned K601's for a couple of months, too, and there is just no way that the built-in amp was sufficient for them. They sounded very thin and (again on typical acoustic/classical music) I had to run the volume knob at max all the time to bring out details.

I have a set of HD280 Pro's for when I need the isolation or can't allow leakage, and they are plenty loud at 1 to 2 o'clock on the 0404's volume knob.

WOW, You must listen Loud. HD-580 plugged into 0404 USB headphone jack listening to XM based classical HD station via coax input measures high 60's db to mid 70's db at 12 o'clock. Cranked all the way up it measures 80 - 90 db.

The 0404 usb sounds very clean a very black background and very acceptable but it lacks the depth that my tube amp adds to the sound.

I think I'm still leaning towards the HD650s or HD600s for listening to music, and either the HD595 or the DT-770 for Games/Movies. Just wondering, how would the HD650s or 600 sound with games/music?
