I really need a new pair of headphones that can perform really well. I listen mostly to trance music, and some rap. Price is not an issue, I'm willing to pay top dollar for the best.

I think the Sennheiser Orpheus would be a good choice.

I haven't heard them myself, but some recommend the Beyerdynamic DT-770 for rap and trance. Apparently they have excellent bass response.

Omega 2 will not suit the kind of music you are interested in.

A dynamic headphone like the Sennheiser HD-650 + a top of the line amplifier like the Blockhead + Balanced cables for the sennheiser + Source with balanced outputs + balanced interconnects + Power conditioner + Isolation cones should give you what you want

Then again

A rio karma + grado SR-60 + Todd Flat Pads will give you about 80% of that

You pick and choose

What is your budget? The Qualia headphones are $3000.00

Better to go with a sensible headphone like the HD-650 and a top of the line source like a Wadia, Meridian, Shanling, Maverick etc.

Cheers!

Do you really mean that? You have to be careful when you say that around here or you could end up spending thousands.

Let the shopping begin!!! Welcome to Headfi and you probably have a big wallet so we need not apologize.

Top dollar headphones...I'd advocate having your ears checked by one of the top 5 hearing specialists in the world, a top sound engineer to map your preferences and then getting Senn or Stax or maybe even Sony to custom make a headphone for your needs. That's just for trance. You'll need another pair of headphones specifically for rap. And others for other types of music.

Good luck and remember we're always here to help you spend those $$$.

Ohh. Since this is a complicated project of significant personal nature, you'll need a consultant/project manager. Since you're a Headfi member in good standing I'm willing to offer my services on a retainer plus costs basis.
