I agree with a lot of what you have said, and I accept that Head-Fi may not be the right place for the 'form-based' approach : it *is* formulaic and would turn a lot of people off, but I am equally turned off by threads that turn into flamefests simply because someone had the audacity to recommend a given pair of cans. I know - the Net is anarchy incarnate - but it irks me that I could spawn a 10-20 page thread simply by titling it 'Super Can Smackdown !!!!!' and repeating the same old cliches about 3 or 4 cans to get the party started. These are the threads that I give up on, and I suspect I'm not the only one.
Still hoping to get some feedback on the RS1/MS-Pro - maybe I should have titled *that* thread a little more enticingly
