Hi there I have some good old Akg Q701 that need an upgrade. My budget is something under $1000 and I listen to mostly alternative/ indie but sometimes go classical or Jazz. I could buy used equipment if it fits into the budget. My current setup is a cypher labs Algorhythm solo -db and duet.

Hey, you should read about the Hifiman HE-560.
 
Maybe you can get a Beyer T1!

Well, T1 is a great headphone, superb all-rounder.
HE-560 is probably just a tad behind the Beyer in terms of soundstage, but you know, both are very nice and well engineered products.
The best choice is down to preference, although you can't go wrong with any of these headphones.

I have exactly the same tastes as you and I have gone with the HE-560. Not regretting it.

I haven't tested the T1 though so I can't help you there.
