Hi guys!

As you can see, I'm new here and I'm looking for a goodish pair of headphones preferably under 100€. I did a bit of asking around and people recommended some a bit more expensive so I'm willing to go until 140€ (if I really have to =P).

I want an over-ear closed back set. I've been looking at sites on the subject but I don't know much about the technical stuff. I listen to all kinds of music (mainly rock, jazz and blues but also classic, house / techno, hip hop, so basically all kinds of music). Also I don't know if I should get a neutral or other kind. The truth is I probably won't use an equalizer. I just want to listen to music the best way possible (on my budget).

The recommendations I have are for these:

  1. Audio-Technica ATH-M30X - 78€
  2. Audio-Technica ATH-M40X - 113€ (Used - 92€)
  3. Audio Technica ATH-M50 - 140€ (Used - 126€)
  4. Sony MDR-V6 - 98€
  5. Sony MDR-7506 - 124€
  6. Shure SRH440s - 142€

I'm looking for the best quality-price. Please feel free to make more suggestions!

Thanks in advance!

I would go ath m50 and if you do, you might want to get the m50x even though they are above your budget.

Also I would strongly reccomend the creative aurvana live headphones.

Since you are in Europe, you will probably get the best deal on European headphones. why not consider the Sennheiser HD380 pro?
I haven't heard it, however many reviews I read said that it is a great improvement over the HD280 pro both in comfort and sound quality.
In the US on amazon it is $126(100 euros). It might be even cheaper in Europe? You should try to listen to some headphones yourself to
see what you prefer. Look at AKG models as well. I have the Sony V6, which is essentially the same as the 7506. It is very sturdy and neutral
sounding, however it doesn't have as much detail as many of the newer model headphones. The ATH-M50 is very popular here. The lower
ATH models are not.

I buy them on Amazon.co.uk so I can't really try them on. I'm from Portugal so I have to pay for shipping. Maybe I'll check out some local stores.

The Sennheiser HD 380 Pro cost me something like 131€.

The Sennheiser HD380 pro is only 111 Euros on the Amazon German site. Can you order from there?

There are a couple reviewers that disagree (tyll over at innerfidelity and z reviews/zeospantera)

Before I would buy the HD380 pro I would do some comparison listening to it and a few other headphones. The vast majority of the reviews I read comparing the the HD380 pro to the HD280 pro said the the HD380 pro is a great improvement not just in sound but in comfort as well.

Thank you so much for the help guys!

I've narrowed it down to these:

Creative Aurvana Live - $84
Audio Technica ATH-M50 - $161
Audio Technica ATH-M50x - $204

I still have a few questions though!

1) Is the difference between the Aurvana and the M50 so big as to justify the $77 to $120 dollar difference?

2) As for the M50 vs the M50x, I've been told they sound the same, though the cable option is appealing I don't think it justifies the price. People also say they are more comfortable and that's important to me. What do you guys think? Has anyone tried both or upgraded to the M50x?

I tried the new ATH M-X series and I will say that instead of getting M50X which quite pricey, you can get the M40X. The sound they produce is almost the same, you almost cannot tell the difference other than M50X is bigger than M40X.

Creative Aurvana Live! Headphones.

These are a very good set of closed, inexpensive, high def sound.
You can pair these with something like the Centrance Dacport Pro, and you have instantly affordable $300 audiophile sound that costs less then $90-USD.

Just a suggestion of 2 more headphones in your budget, the AKG K361/K371 and the Soundmagic hp 151.All three are easy to drive and are a step up from the MX50s.
I am in the same position as you, living in Portugal.I know the AKGs are available in Portugal.
Might also be worth checking out Amazon espanha, usually the shipping is cheaper
