Wasnt quite sure whether this should be in DIY or headphones.

I was experimenting with a cheap over-the-head set of headphones. I decided to see if i could change the cable with another pair i had.

So to start, i took the left cable, and cut it. When i tried to connect the same right/left cables to the detached end, it wouldnt make sound. Could someone fill me in on the workings of cables?

in the left cable and the right cable, theres two other cables inside that cable. both have a ground and the wire for sound. if i remember correctly, green is left and red is right
