Hi,

I'm looking to purchase some full size headphones.
Closed back preferably unless I will be missing a treat by not having open back.

I have an Astell & Kern AK 240 and also an iPod Touch 5 Gen. I like to use my iPod for Spotify to discover new music.
I've recently returned some Blue Mo Fi headphones. Although sounded great I was not happy with the over all max low range of
the head set. Which is correct to say.... there was not enough Bass for my liking.

I'm looking for a headset that will offer a great sound. But preferably with a decent amount of Bass. Nothing really expensive.
My max spend would be £400 (British Pound) approx 600$. I'd consider paying more "if" it would be really worth it.

I don't have an independent mini amp so I guess ohms would be important to as I do like to listen to music louder than most.

Could anyone please suggest anything for me please?

thanks :)

Don't own them but people around here seem to like the PM3. But if you want to save more $ I was going to say go with the t50rp but you like bass.

I want something that will be good to listen to the likes of Reggae and other variations of Reggae.
But also other genres. Pop, Dance (chart music).

Are the OPPO designed to be used more with an Amp? and will I find them on the quite side when pushed using built in amps of players like the AK240 and iPod?

Also... are there any other suggestions out there please?

Hi,

I was hoping for a little more help from this community. (thanks to headhog for his contribution)

I have another question if anyone is up for helping me?

Amp/DACs is there a decent performing amp that will be a good all round driver for the likes of the OPPO PM-3's and also Sennheiser HD8 DJ.
These are the two head phones I'm looking at currently.

Oppo HA-2
Denon DA-10
Onkyo DAC-HA200
Teac HA-P50

Also what about the ...
FiiO E12 Mont Blanc  ??

Any help appreciated.

Hi,

If you like more bass than is normal then these are the best regardless of price:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/JVC-HA-SZ2000-Circumaural-Headphones-System/dp/B00CIQ7NXQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1444083020&sr=1-1&keywords=jvc+ha+sz2000

If it's refinement/balance you want:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fostex-T50Rp-Professional-Semi-Open-Headphones/dp/B000CZ0RO2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1444083163&sr=1-1&keywords=fostex+t50rp

If you would like a headphone with a more generalized sound then these are the one's:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Takstar-Portable-professional-Headphone-Computer/dp/B0062TV73M/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1444083440&sr=1-1&keywords=takstar+hi+2050
( The Takstars are one of those rare finds that easily compare to headphones costing several times more)

The ultimate headphones ( IMO) that are good at everything would be the Fostex TH600...but they are a little over your budget. If i where you i'd go for them:http://www.amazon.co.uk/Fostex-TH600-Premium-Reference-Headphones/dp/B00BEUCNNC/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1444083640&sr=1-1&keywords=fostex+th600

They are essentially the same headphone as the legendary Denon ahd5000 except without the wood. IMO they are just about as good as it gets!

Now on to amps.

Based on my experience i can recommend these:

Oehlbac headphone amp: ( Amazing and one of the best regardless of price).
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Oehlbach-XXL-Ultra-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B00MIZR18Y/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1444084226&sr=1-2&keywords=oehlbach

Marantz pm5005: ( very beefy/punchy sound, perfect for hard to drive headphones).
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marantz-PM5005-Integrated-Amplifier-Black/dp/B00LUKN2C2/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1444084365&sr=1-1&keywords=marantz+pm5005

I want to reiterate again that the Fostex TH600's are essentially the same headphones as the old Denon ahd5000's ( they have the same drivers) and no matter what headphones i've heard, nothing has ever compared to them. They can do anything...i'd definitely consider them.

Hope this helps
