I've listened to a couple of Stax headphones in a shop,and they didn't impress me at all.I don't know about the top of the line Stax,to be fair,but the difference in price is just ridiculous,so here you are:

Sennheiser 13 Heal
STAX 7 Hurt

Sennheiser 14 HEAL
STAX 6 HURT

For the fact that they make some, bang for the buck, without you having to dish out 300 of them, for one of them

Sorry, but I do not get this...

* Stax SR-007MK2 = ~$1800 <-> Sennheiser HD800 = $1400.
* Stax SR-404 = $450 (Price Japan) <-> Sennheiser HD650 = $380 (Amazon).

A price difference, but nothing I would call ridiculous...

I've been cautiously curious about that. What are the drive needs of the SR-404? About equivalent to the 650?

Are you including the price of the STAX amp?

Sennheiser 13 HURT
STAX 7 HEAL

I can't stand by when people who have never even heard Stax vote them down. There are a number of excellent Stax systems, some of them as cheap as $100 (electret-energizer) Don't blame Stax for not racing to the bottom.

Here in Finland the price of the cheapest STAX system is 890€,about 1273 $.

No, the listed prices are for headphones only.
Since both Stax and Sennheiser need proper amplification...

Not so valid,in my humble opinion,because you cannot choose what amp to use with the Stax earspeakers,and you can buy a Presonus HP4 for an HD600 and have a more than satisfactory sound,believe me or not.The two of them together cost about 470 $ in Europe.

I bought my SRM1/MK2 and Lambda Pros for $400 (which is still not too hard if you're patient). To me, a very satisfying musical experience comparable to dynamic rigs many times its cost.

Sennheiser 12 Hurt
Stax 8 Heal

Just had a chance to audition some Stax this weekend so I came back to this thread, having now heard a mid-range Stax alongside properly-amped HD600/650.
