Hello all,

Should I use a preamp with a headphone amp if I am using only one source?

I use a PSAudio Direct Stream Sr. which, for example, can be used without a preamp, but it sounds 15% better with a pre, so I use it.

I am going to purchase a QuickSilver headphone and am wondering,

1-preamp main line out (and it is a line pre), or
2-preamp tape out which is by definition line level, but I believe the whole preamp is line level, or
3-should I go straight from the DAC to the headphone amp?

And of course I will experiment and decide what I think is best, but I just want some findings based on other's experiments
What you you guys think?

Hi RPDQ!
Circuit wise most preamps and head amps are pretty similar. In my experience, you'll be golden without an additional preamp. Unless said preamp adds some characteristic, that you love in sound. Then go for it.
Sooo, you should just try and see which option you like the most :)
