Hello,

I am a newbie and would like to know whether I should buy a headphone amp or a dac/amp combo for my sony mdr xb700. My source would be my dell laptop. I do not know what is a dac/amp and what difference it makes in the sound. I am looking for fiio e5 headphones amp as they fit my budget and are quite portable.
 
Any suggestions?

From what I understand, the DAC is what will really improve your overall sound.
The amp will, then, add Bass, Treble, Gain to it.
 
I possess limited knowledge on the subject, but am currently looking to invent in an Amp/DAC for my new Sennheiser HD598s

That's exactly what I wanted to know. I have checked some reviews of Fiio E7 Amp/Dac and would be going for it, I don't know whether or not it will improve the overall sound but I guess it's worth a try..
