Hi,

I have a Sennheiser HD580 and I'm looking to buy a first headphone amp. Right now, I listen either through the headphone jack of a discman or a Yamaha RX-V990. Needless to say, using the Yamaha is a lot better.

Now, my question is, if I get an entry level headphone amp, such as the Creek OBH-11, is that an upgrade or a downgrade from using just the headphone jack of a decent receiver (like the RX-V990)?

Thank You.

It's probably an upgrade. There are rack components with very high quality headphone amplifiers built in. There just aren't many. Assuming you get the Creek, let us know whether the Yamaha headphone jack is better, worse, or about the same.

May I suggest you consider this opportunity?
