Headphone + amp + DAC for around $1000
Nov 12, 2013 at 8:14 PM Post #46 of 73
I've been using the Audio-GD 15.32 for almost three weeks, no regrets.
and the 11.32 is suppose to have a better DAC.
My 15.32 easily drives my 600-Ohm headphones.

I think I would use E17 for office use and go for Audio GD for home use. Which model would you suggest 15.32 or 11.32? thanks

I picked the 15.32 because I really wanted some thing a little more music and smooth, where the 11.32 offers a little more detail.
There was a used 11.32 selling for $280, I might have gone for it, if I had not ordered the 15.32 already.
Price sometimes effects my choices.

hear you there, Audio GD makes a nice amp I prefer a more detailed solid state my self, and if u ever feel you want some warmth, there are a plethera of hybrid tubes for around $150 that should warm up your HE 500

And, yes buying used here on Head Fi is a great way to get gear! There are atually a number of used HE 500 for sale here at head f for about $500 each, if you get the chance you ought to try to pick one up!

So I Purchased the HE 500 and Mini x with banana plug adapters and now I cant decide on an DAC. Stuck between Modi and ODAC. ANY suggestions? which do you guys think would work better with the setup? alternative suggestions are welcome as well :)

Hmm I'd go with the Modi, as it's cheaper, and it has a bit more detail of the slighty more laid back oDac! The HE 500 should have some awesome mids so it will appreicate the extra detail! Also do get your self some Jerger Pads for those HE 500s!

Awesome. I have the same amp with the HE-400s. I'm using the HRT Music Streamer II, which is pretty similar to the Modi or ODAC. A little older though. It's hard to go wrong with either of those two. I guess I'd suggest the Modi because it's cheaper.

Foobar is popular for a free, full-featured player. jriver, jplay, and audivarna are paid ones.

Thanks

BTW, since this will be my first decent set up, which media player do you guys use for playing your music (maybe video) files? are the regulars like VLC player OK?

K-lite, which uses a Media Player Classic interface, is the one I use for video, sometimes VLC.
Use Foobar2000 for music audio.

Foobar is kinda like the Linux of media players.
