My current setup sounds brilliant but mids and bass could be better/prominent.

Audiophilleo > Anedio D1 > Burson HA160 > AKG 702

I feel it could just be the AKGs therefore I'm looking for advice on what headphones to get next (<$1000).

Cheers!

Nice setup man - definitely the headphone as there is no chink that rig

Perhaps a Grado RS1i or HD650 would be a nice polar opposite

I hadn't thought about going up the Grado chain until your reply. I actually like the Grado sound and I've had a pair for SR80s from early 2000s and they still get some tune time. At the end of the day I just want to get lost in some Floyd guitar riffs.

I have never heard the LCD2s. Can anyone describe what to expect going from 702s to LCD2s?

Huge polar swing again - probably one of the furthest actually.

The LCD-2 will have very little sound stage compared to the 702, especially in terms of width, it will also
sound quite mid centric compared to the K702 - general signature like the HD650 is very non fatiguing,
bass is big, bloomy and detailed and the highs are very, very tame - too tame for some (me included)

It's a very nice headphone and I totally understand those who fall in love with it, however - the fit is a
stickler for many, it's a clamper, particularly where the inner cup meets the jawline, at 500 grams it
can also test anyone's neck muscles.

T1 would be the most natural upgrade IMO if you can get it for around $1k. Synergy with the Burson isn't the best either. Do you have to spend that much though - the HD650s could fit the bill and they sound wonderful with the HA160.

Haha, no I don't *have* to spend that much!

Gwarmi, Thanks for your insight. I really do enjoy the spaciousness and comfort of the AKGs but, they just don't sound "rich" to my ears, you know milk vs. 2% vs. non-fat - the AKGs are the  2% when I'm craving for some ice-cream

LCD-2's and HD650's certainly do offer a full fat, thick sound - heck, the LCD-3's top them all in that respect but they also come with a Beluga caviar price tag!

Hmm... interesting choice. I just upgraded my setup, but I have been thinking I'll upgrade to the HE-500 and HA160 a couple years down the road. (Or, of course, new versions.)

Give an update when you get your HE-500s: I'd like to know what you think!

HE-500s showed up yesterday morning.

Here are some very initial impressions. I'll update again in two weeks.

• First off, Audiophilleo + Anedio D1 + HA160 did not sound good to my ears.
    • HA160 seems to sounds harsh and grating.
• Audiophilleo + Anedio D1 sounds good.
• on the other hand Audiophilleo + HA160D sounds really really good.
    • HA160D doesn't have the decay of D1 but sounded like music none the less.
• bass like I've never heard before.
• clarity like I've never heard before, it takes a while to recover from the shock :)
• they make AKG K702 and Q701 sound like a toy, although AKGs have a wider soundstage.
