Yup, i'm aware.
When I said the competition, I meant the price.
I would like to go with CFA3-T but because my Chord Dave sounds so much better from RCA than XLR and CFA3-T doesn't have RCA, I can't make that choice.

I have the CFA3-T ordered to use with my Chord Dave and I checked prior to ordering about only wanting to use RCA input. I was told it's not a problem. Looking at Justin's Post #581 he confirms this.

We were able to fit the RCA input back into the design! So the CFA3-T gains the balanced pre-amp output and keeps 2x XLR and 1x RCA inputs

Hadn't realized there was a version of this coming with a pre-amp. Might be my eventual upgrade from the V550.. *edit - nvm, saw this one was a tube hybrid

It’ll have a bypass option tho so you should be able to skip the tube stage, I’m also curious if Schiits LISST (solid state tubes) could work for our amp as well.

Just out of curiosity, when is the approximate deadline for pre-order? Don’t really want to miss it…

I chose the semi-deluxe.
I hesitated with the one with the tube preamp but pay 2000$ more and end up preferring without the preamp part... was my fear.
We have no clue what will bring the tube to the sound.

Yes it's a trial and error. IMHO, for SS amps like the CFA3 is more of a lottery with a tube preamp than if you're using a pure SET OPT amp where it's 99% better with a tube preamp in the chain IME

My latest tube amp was a Single Power "The Dragon"

30 min is good for listening but after 3 hrs reach the maximum quality.
I tried many tubes but it's lottery ... picked a tube by reputation and hope it's fit well with the amp, dac, cable and tastes ...
When have a good match, it's nice of course.

I sold it because I had audio-gd phoenix and my hd-650 was much better in balanced (XLR) than single end but vocals was better on the dragon.
