Headamp Blue Hawaii Special Edition

Thanks Phil, yes I forgot those 2 things.

So 6 things then so far.

1. Volume pot - at deposit stage
2. Colour?
3. Type of feet?
4. Choice of tubes.
5. Voltage
6. Output jacks

I did manage to get 1x Stax, and 1x Senn jacks on my build.  I don't think he is offering that option any more though.  If you mine this thread, I think I remember Justin saying that he would not be offering the Senn jack going forward.

Volume control - stock vs Alps RK50 (you pick this on the website if you place your order there)

The other choices are made when Justin sends you an email to detail your order. Once you go through this email exchange, your order is truely "in".

Color - you can see the options scattered on this thread (seems like he had some extra green ones of some sort)
Feet - metal spikes vs rubber feet
Tubes - stock vs upgrade (currently Shugang Treasures I think?  I did not ask for tube upgrade, as I have a set of those already)
Voltage - 100 vs 220 vs 230 (choices listed on the website)

Hoping some folks let us know when they get tracking numbers this week.

I got two Stax jacks as well.

I thought about the Sennheiser option, but I remembered reading from several Head-Fi'ers that the HE90 doesn't sound great (or maybe just isn't optimal) with the BHSE. I imagine that the HEV90 amp it came with is still the best pairing for the HE90. I believe there are a few other third-party amps that offer both connections, but I don't know if they are the best fit for the HE90 either (e.g. Ray Samuels Thunderbolt).

I still offer the Aristaeus for those interested in the HE90, or for a warmer sounding tube amp

The looks of the Aristaeus drew me into even looking at electrostatics. Difficulty finding HE60/90 headphones made getting a BHSE+SR.-009 a better path to follow for me.

I still love the looks of the Aristaeus.

Yeah, and that's why I chose the BHSE.

The Orpheus (HE90) and the corresponding amp (HEV90) are still several times the price (I saw a setup between $30,000 and $40,000 sometime for sale last year) of an SR-009 and BHSE or equivalent amp (class-wise), so by that standard, the SR-009 with it's greater options (for amplification, etc.) is the better (and best) choice currently.

The aristaeus is capable of driving stax headphones as well, it isn't necessarily optimized for the sennheisers

The Aristaeus was specifically built for the HE90's and voiced for them as far as I know. IMO, it sounds just as good as any amp I've heard with the HE90's, including the HEV90. Having heard it and the BHSE with the Stax 007, I would without question order the BHSE for the Stax and Aristaeus for the HE90's. Just my 2 cents.

Thank you Golfnutz for checking, I'm feeling better already. The tubes are guaranteed, whatever that means, but I'll check with the seller. I won't be able to listen again until the weekend - can't wait :xf_eek:)

Just got this back today from a different seller:

"There are three types of debris that may be inside a power tube: loose mica flakes, small glass flecks and particles from the base that may come loose with time. These symptoms do not affect the tube's ability to work nor do they portend it's demise. The getter flash will degrade through sustained use over time, but will not create any particles".

It would appear your tube should be OK.

Batch #3
- 2 shipments have gone out so far, with a 3rd early next week. there will be 1 shipment per week until they are all gone. so far these have been all 115V units, but i will start doing 230V after the next one

Batch #4
- if you haven't already received a notification from me about completion of your BHSE/the testing phase, and you ordered this year, then you're most likely in batch #4
- batch #4 is currently about 60% sold
- this batch will ship early 2015 with the first unit completed in January or possibly December of this year
