Hi All,

I have been looking AKG550 and like the look and feel of this.., and currently own Bose Quiet Comfort 15. Can anyone please recommend similar headphones..? My budget range is up to $500.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Peace,
Andrew

can you tell, what sources the headphones would be connected to? what type of music do you normally listen? what are you looking from the new headphones, such as emphasized bass or wide soundstage or something..... elaborate!
do you use dac/amp? are the music files mp3 or flac or audiocds?

Music that I tend to listen to are:
Trance
Rap

Primary Source:
-iPod
-iPod Nano
-Laptop - music streamed from Soundcloud..

Looking for:
-Clarity
-Sound Quality
-Perhaps more bass

I can possibly look at purchasing an amp, fiio?

K550 would fit your needs very well. besides that, you can also look at M 50 and DT 770 Pro 32 Ohm (closed design).
for dac/amp look for E17. It is a very good dac/amp for a beginner.

If you want to carry an amp, get a Mad Dog by MrSpeakers or a Paradox(referencesounds.com).

Thanks. Great..I'll take a look at it. And if I can avoid battery powered headphones that would be better as well..because currently the Bose QC15 only works, if you have a battery.

these phones are not active noise reduction like qc 15. Bose has good reputation for noise reduction but not for its sound quality in head fi.

Actually, many people like the QC15.

I've had the K550 for a few months now, not really an "in your face" kind of sound, but good detail.
As it's only 32-Ohm, It would be preferred to use the K550 with a headphone amplifier with an output impedance of 4-Ohms or less.

What sources will you be plugging the headphones into?

I like QC15 but don't enjoy the part of carrying a spare battery, hence the option of AKG. I might go with that and possibly get EC17

I do not suggest buying the AKG 550, it's a very dry sound, nothing musical to it at all.

I'm not going to search for the thread, but I know some avid QC15 likers.
