Hello all,

A while ago I bought a NikonD40 from Japan. It works fine, and I love it! The language is in English, and so is the manual.

However, the only thing is, I believe the firmware is in Japanese. PicturePerfect is gibberish; when I try and work with RAW files in PS, all I get is a bunch of ????? as drop down menus. (If anyone needs me to take a screenshot to get a visual idea of what I'm saying, I'll be happy to provide).

Does anyone know how to fix this problem by updating the firmware via my computer or perhaps simply changing the firmware settings via the camera itself?

Thanks very much in advance.

Firmware is usually updated by putting the file in the root of an SD card, and then inserting the card into the camera, it usually automatically loads and prompts you. But be aware you could potentially brick your D40.

Right, thanks for the reply.

What do you advise I do then? I really don't like the idea that my D40 could die, heh.

Perhaps hand the camera over to NikonNZ?
