Personal preference, I don't directly correlate love of high fidelity with a personality I'd care to spend time with. It is a valid check off a very long and awkward list, but so is "imbibes coffee to expulsion".

These threads are like a migratory life form. I don't know if anyone has ever studied the exact pattern, but every year or so we get one of these coming through. It stays for a bit, then it dies. And I suspect it has something to do with why the female head-fi members may be somewhat reluctant to identify themselves as such.
 
By the way: GIRL stands for Girl In Real Life just as well
