So, I've begun to re-record all my CD's to 192kb/s and am planning on building a headphone amp/modding my sound card.

I'm bitten by the Head-Fi bug...oh noes!

Might as well go FLAC since you're rebuilding anyway

x2

welcome to Head-Fi, sorry about your wallet!

P.S. - That's the first time I've ever gotten to say that to anyone!

Sick.

I was just thinking that as I was re-recording Norah Jones...

"I wonder what this would sound like at 320?"

I need another 400GB HDD for my music computer, not just the PVR

I agree 192 may seem OK now but later it won't and you will have to re-burn your collection. I should know it happened to me !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, I did the same thing! 192, then I experimented with VBR, then I went to 320, and I'm done. 500+ cd's are a pain to re-burn.

Agree.. At least, I do. But anyway, don't hesitate to rip your music to 320 kpbs or above, because you will eventually do so

Welcome to Head-Fi!

As several others have suggested, I recommend you go straight for lossless. Cause you will most probably get the urge to go lossless a short time down the road.

NO! Don't do it! Going to 320 is sometimes a bigger improvement than better cans, and lossless is sometimes a bigger improvement than even better cans. Hard drives are cheap, you'll soon regret all the effort you put into 320.

Probably, thats how it was for me anyway!
