Hi guys, I've been really struggling to find the "perfect" earphones for over a year now. Here's a list of what I have bought/returned:
- Skullycandy Ink'd
- Philips SHE8000
- Sony MDRX50
- Sennheiser CX160
- Sennheiser CX200 II Streets
- Panasonic RPHJE12
- JVC S160 Flats
- Samsung AAEP433 (for Tocco mobile)
And possibly more!

The highlighted above are the only ones i have had success with/actually liked the sound produced. And these ones were the most cheapest! The rest have either too much treble, lack middle range or are too bass heavy. The only problem is that the in-ear Samsung  need replacing A LOT, and the JVC headphones leak way too much. Can anyone recommend some good quality budget headphones to replace my current ones? I'm a student so the highest i can afford is £20-25, hence I've always bought budget brands. Or is my only hope to buy those expensive brands e.g. Beats?

Oh, and here are some details of the "cheap" headphones, that sounded WAY better than the more expensive ones from the list:
- JVC Flats http://www.amazon.co.uk/JVC-HA-S160-B-E-FLATS-Lightweight-Headphones/dp/B004M7SQNU
- Samsung In-Ear http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/samsung-aaep433-p17651.htm, I've done so much research on these yet i still cannot find any info on their frequency response etc.
Hope someone can help!

The HA-S160 leaked too much sound????? This is a closed headphone. If others can hear sound leakage when you are using it, then you are playing the music much too loud. If you want a very cheap decent IEM, then try the JVC Riptidz. If you are willing to spend up to $20 then try the JVC HA-FX40 if you like plenty of treble, if not then tryPanasonic RP-HJE355.

The JVCs are awesome, except when I'm playing music over 50% volume they leak noise terribly. The reason i play the volume higher is so i can hear all the music, e.g. Florence and the machine songs which use a lot of instruments. Any lower and the bass drowns out the other ranges. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll check them out!

IME you only need to spend about 50 euros to get headphones as good as or better than the Solos. For 25 euros, I'd stick to IEMs.

I'm about to get the FX40s today, so I'll post some impressions on them later. From what I've read, though, these have v-shaped sound signatures, so mids may be not as forward.

It looks like you're looking for more balanced earphones.

Id recommend a Sony MH1C, costs from 20-30$(depends on your location). Its just an IEM worth 5x its price and can compete with high tier IEMs

Check out its review here :

and comparision with various IEMs here :

Check the last comparision table..youll know why this IEM is getting so popular ..
