I just got the HE-500 yesterday and it sounds absolutely amazing on my Asgard 2.

I'm wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to a Lyr2 or maybe even save up for a WA6SE (I love tubes). I know Orthos are power hungry and maybe i'm missing something with my Asgard. To me it sounds great as-is, but i'm very new to Orthos, so i'm not 100% sure.

Get an Opera Consonance Cyber 20, fit 1x Mullard NOS ECC82 and 2x Psvane EL84, upgrade the crummy stock headphone cable to Toxic Cables Silver Poison, and enjoy. Potential endgame HE-500 combo.

Well, I'm happy with mine!

BTW, the Cyber 20 will also get the best out of your HD650s...

Make sure it's the proper Cyber 20 with the separate power supply, though (there is also a simplified, lower cost version with an integrated PSU).

Try Shenzhen Audio Store online (remember to ask for the 110V version!).

As you appear to be in the U.S., you can try the Sylvania EL84s. They should work well. The driver tube should be a Mullard, though!

I run mine with a Bryston BHA-1 and it gives me the extra boost I require compared to the headphone out on my preamp.

Sorry for the thread revival but didn't want to start a new one.

HE-500 pairs wonderfully with Maverick D1 Amp/DAC.

Only outputs 1W but is plenty of power for HE-500 i find.

I've upgraded my D1 to OPA627 opamp so not stock.

I've ordered a Lyr 3 and i've been mulling over cancelling the order. what to do....
