Im looking at getting either he400 or he400s for music and gaming. Which would you recomend? Is there a drop in quality from the 400 to the 400s?

the 400s is much easier to drive,so unless you have a pretty good amp thats your only option.

After modding the 400's grill mod and Sorbothane mod with Focus A pads I prefer them over the 400S's. Like monsterzero said you have to have good power to run them though.

I currently have a fiio olympus 2 which probably wont cut it. I think for now I will go with He400s untill I can upgrade to a new dac/amp (thinking a shiit stack). By then I will want something a bit better. Thanks for the feedback!

E 12 would be just fine. Had one and it powered them to good effect. The 400S is also good just get a pair of Focus A pads you won't regret it.
