HD800S VS Clear MG

HD800S is objectively the better headphone, but the Clear MG is subjectively better tuned to your music preferences.
I would go with Clear peronally, but Clear MG should get the job done.

I have not tried the 800S but I have tried the 8XX, and I prefer the Clear MG by a long shot. The 800S is much better tuned than the 8XX however.
If you want a more dynamic, punchy, and warmer sound, go with the Clear MG. R&B and hip hop will also be much better with the Clear MG, since the 800S rolls off in the sub bass. HD800S is better for lighter genres such as Jazz and Classical, in my opinion.

Difference Beast

800S has not enough bass for your taste

Agree with this, If you can get Clear OG would be better.

If you listen to R&B and hiphop, the TH900 and ZMF Eikon might be a good option too

For that music I would choose the Clear.

What a boomer thing to say.
As a proud Boomer, it's ridiculous that you seem to think "boomer" is disparaging. Your response is purile.

I may agree with Andrew_WOT about hip-hop, but good music is good music. I've found that even if one dislikes a particular genre, there are still gems to be found. All that said, it's un-American to not like R&B (esp. Motown).

As for the 800s - I agree and would note that the original HD800 is one of the easiest phones on the planet to equalize for better bass. I'm not as certain about the 800s, because I returned mine before doing extensive testing. The differences from my original HD800 were not enough for me to keep two $1500 headphones that were that similar. I sure loved the color, though.

@tomb, if you still own original HD800, I highly recommend SDR mod for it, it takes edge off its at times harsh treble making it very close to HD800S tune.

Yep - bought it and have had those two little foam buttons for a few years now, but with my Beezar/ECP Audio T4 and Walnut DAC, it's not really needed. Plus at my age, a little spike in the highs is a welcome thing.

I agree that the Super Dupont Resonator is the best HD800 mod out there, bar none - and probably much better than the HD800S stock.

Clear MG for the genre, but better would be the TH900/TH900MK2.
