so i am looking to purchase a used HD800s on ebay, seller has stated there is a dent on left ear cup grill.

does this effect performance in any way??

can i use this defect to negotiate a lower price??

Depends on the "dent" would need to see if its hitting anything or if its deep e.t.c.
But generally a small dent on a open headphone grill wont do anything.

Any defect is reason to ask for a lower price, Unless its already priced low in which case you'll offend the seller & thats never good because & speaking from experiance (as a seller) they won't deal with you after that.

I'd say if there is no hole in the grill it's a purely optical flaw which doesn't affect performance whatsoever. The grills are actually pretty soft and flexible - so a dent there happens easily.

Of course you can always try to negotiate and an optical flaw is a flaw too ...

A picture would help ...

That is likely just cosmetic but if I were you I'd ask Sennheiser how much that part will cost and then negotiate so you can buy a new one if he's trying to sell it for the same price is the going rate for a used but dent-free HD800.

Yeah its just cosmetic by the looks of it. Heres the inside if you are wondering (HD800 same thing for this part)

Should not effect the sound at all.

another question i would like to ask, i rather do it here then posting another thread.
i also have a option of buying a brand new HD800 for 1100 usd. is that a better deal or is the 800s still the better option even if its used??

also thank to all regarding this matter

Theres a lot of depends that pop up because i prefer the HD800s sound to the HD800 but you can dupont mod the HD800 which makes it a better buy.
But then you come back down to price which is tricky for me to go into because of our dollar, shipping costs & our import laws in New Zealand vs total costs so it'll just confuse you if i comment further on price.

But i'll leave you with this: I usually use Amazon for reference for a price & if its a good deal, then work off that.

Theres also: https://www.head-fi.org/forums/headphones-for-sale-trade.6550/ for a good idea of second price.

It is possible, but unlikely. There are websites like HiFi shark to locate what the best deal is on currently posted headphones for sale.
On genuine vs fake, it is illegal to ship counterfeit goods--so check the seller's rating etc. first to ensure they have many sales of legitimate items on ebay or similar websites.
