I very recently got the HD800 and Valhalla 2. I will be upgrading tubes on the Valhalla 2 and will keep the HD800 stock "unmodded".
There is lots of info on the DAC's for HD800 and in past year or two lots of new products came out. Some pretty affordable and giving a great value compared DAC's few years ago. Can anyone recommend me a DAC for about $300 (new or used) that would be a great match for my setup? It needs to have SPDIF (Optical) and take advantage of what HD800, Valhalla2 can do in terms of sound stage, detail, timbre, neutrality.
To get the ball rolling I looked at two DAC's but would like to see if there are any other that match with HD800 and tube amps.
First one I'm interested is Peachtree Audio DAC-iT X DAC-iT and second Cambridge Audio DacMagic 100. If anyone has experience with any of those two DAC's I would value your feedback and if anyone has experience with other DAC's I would like to hear from you also.
