Hey guys, I'm a long time lurker and I've finally decided to take the dive. Right now I only have a pair of HD555s plugged into an iPhone and I'm wanting to do a big upgrade.

My plan so far is to get a pair of HD650 + a DAC + an amp. Right now I'm looking at the Stello HP100 as the amp but a lot of people here say that the Darkvoice amps go really well with the HD650. The DV337 is a tad more expensive than what I'd like to spend so the next step down would be the DV332. Given the price difference between the HP100 and the DV332, would the synergy of the DV332 + HD650 be enough to match the HP100?

It really depends whether you like the tube amp sound or the solid state sound. Solid state is often more detailed, punchy, revealing, whereas tube amps are more smooth and groovy. I have personally read a lot of good things about the DV332 and HD650/600 combo, so keep that in mind. Perhaps page search some of the DV332 threads here to see if anyone has compared it with the HP100.

About the tube sound and the SS sound, I've read that the DV332 is a SS-sounding tube amp haha so that's kind of a problem

I have the hd 650 and DV 332 setup, and its amazing, the 2 really do click, great synergy. As tube amps go, the 332 doesn't sound 'tubey' but it really delivers! I haven't much experience with other combo's as i've been more into a full speaker rig, but i know when i'm hearing great sound, and without spending anything like the cost of my speaker rig.

Its my opinion that the high impedance 650 flourishes with a tube amp as a tube amp is more apt to properly drive a 300 ohm headphone. As for the sound you get, that is a function of the tubes you pick out, with the right tubes you can have either a SS or tube sounding amp, or even a combination of the two.

DARKVOICE 332 and HD650s - a match made in heaven.

In fact, all DV amps, from the lowly FIGARO to the stately 337 are great with the HD650s. The new 3322, I would suspect, would also partner them very well.

I have a 336i and it partnered very well with the 650's.

HP100 + HD650 is a working combo. Definitely recommended.

I currently use the Sennie HD600's but I have previously owned the HD650's and have also owned the Darkvoice 336i and Stello HP100.

Both amps possess enough drive to power the HD650 and allow it produce great results. I personally found the Stello HP100 to be too bright/fatiguing when teamed with the HD650 where as the Darkvoice 336i when using the right combo of tubes, was a joy to listen to for hours and hours.
