I find it quite strange why the HD650 got discontinued. The HD660S is not a HD650 replacement.

I have no idea...my guess is they ran out of parts and it’s cheaper to build from the ground up etc.
I’m sure lower grade stuffs too.

do you mean the original 650? cause they're still on sale on sennheisers website with a new mold revision

The HD 650 was never discontinued. Heck they just released a design refresh of the HD 650 (along with the HD 600 and HD 660 S) in late 2019.

Has there been any official announcement? It has been rumored the past couple of years that Sennheiser is going to discontinue the HD650. They're still being made (albeit in Romania) and are being sold without the nice storage box these days.

The original schism was with the 600. I'm a die hard 600 fan, but it's amazing how long these two have gone on with so many sold.

I am waiting for my pair to arrive. After using Beyerdynamic DT 990 for 10 years i decided to give these legends a go. This thread got me even more excited now. I actually ordered HD6xx but i heard it is same pair as HD650.

Just got Aune X7S and i am atm using Titianium HD as DAC via RCA. Nothing fancy as i am not a crazy audiophile, but wanted to make some next steps this year.

The 660S is just plain better than both the 650 and 600. I put my 600 in the closet. I hated the 650. It pisses bass on everything.

I personally like the HD 660 S sound more too, but it made me dizzy so I couldn't keep it. Something about it's sound messed with me, really strange as no other headphone has done that to me. But honestly happier with the sound of T1.2 than either, which I don't find bright in the slightest.

It's a new box and refreshed appearance. It's still the same 600.
