Recently found a great deal out there, USD200 for a mint HD600, wondering is it good enough for vocal? Listening most of the time to jazz vocals

Headphile Senn V2 silver cable going to be my next upgrade if I'm going to grab it, any comments and suggestions?

The major weakness of the Senn 600 when i owned it was vocals. At moderate volume they were unintelligable. At high volumes they opened up nicely but set off my tinitus so they had to go. I much preferred the Beyer 880 and Grado 325 for vocals at the time. Though neither of those touch the Senn 650 for all round performance.

Long story short, Senn 600 at 70dB I wasn't able to make out what voices said, thats bad. The Beyer made vocals easy to hear but is quite dry, the Grado was the most clear of the bunch but bright. The Senn 650 and my new Grado RS1 suffers from none of these issues.

I'm with Old Pa. Vocals--especially classical jazz vocals--sound great. Highly recommended.

Vocals sound wonderful and "right" with the 600's - difinately beyond just good enough.

I third the HD600 for Jazz/classical vocal. To my ears, HD650 offers slightly cleaner and more detailed presentation, but you can't go wrong with HD600 for $200 bucks. Of course, if you are thinking about upgrading the cable, why not just get HD650 instead. I will choose a stock HD650 over recabled HD600 any day.

HD600s + female jazz vocalists (Krall, Monheit, Barber) = some of the greatest music I have heard. Get the 600s. They are very well balanced cans.

Really? I always thought the 600 cable was the weakest part of the headphone (in terms of sound quality). I am very happy with my stock cabled 600s but am thinking of going Blue Dragon.

The stock cable on the 650 is much better in SQ then the 600 stock cable which is very weak.

Wanna borrow my Cardas to see what it sounds like? I haven't been listening to my Senns much.

Totally agree, the HD600 is very good for female vocals.

I almost feel like a fool liking the 600s so much. They are most pleasant to me for some reason.

godluvsxs,
if you do not have an amp yet, you may want to put the cable money towards a nice amp. These Senns definitely need an amp to sound anywhere near their potential IMO. I doubt many here will disagree with that.
