I'm looking to upgrade from my m50x headphones. I use them with my UR22 interface.
Things i'd like in headphones :

- Good for mixing/playing guitar
- Good for gaming
- Good for listening to a wide range of 'instrument' music - rock, metal, pop. Not EDM etc though.

I know either the HD598s or HD600/650s would be a good upgrade from my M50s - but I'm just wondering if going for either the 600s or 650s would be worth the extra money and buying a dedicated amp.

Thanks!

I don't know whether those headphones are good for gaming and/or mixing (as I don't do much or any of those), but for listening the HD600 and HD650 are very solid. I haven't tried the HD598, but I think you should look at the HD600 and HD650 if you really want a step up.

I would recommend getting a used pair of HD600 and a used Schiit Magni for starting up, if you don't mind used gear of course.

You could also get the HD650, but I don't think you find them at a lower price than the HD600. They sound very similar, with the HD650 a touch more laid back in the upper mids/mids that leaves more room for treble to come through and a bit more sense of air.

I'd have trouble picking one over another if they were at the same price.

DT880 is a good all-rounder for your purposes.
HD600/HD650 are more forgiving, softer sounding and more closed in.

If your recordings are high quality, then DT880 might serve you better. Otherwise go HD600/650.

HD600 has very good vocals, extremely focused.
HD650 is cleaner, smoother with slightly roomier soundstage, nice vocals but not as good as HD600's.
