why only the sennheisers?

Beyerdynamic dt770/880/990 are good gamingphones. As are ultrasones and many other.

For gaming closed cans are better choice. Beyerdynamic DT770, Audio Technica A500/A700/A900, Ultrasone HFI-650 and Proline 650/750 are all good gaming cans.

HD595 if you are not using amplifier (though it does improve when adding one) as HD650 needs some juice to shine. HD650 has soundstage for gaming AND has more bass so it might have more feeling than HD595, but HD595 also has good soundstage that is necessary for gaming and is cheaper AND it works just fine directly out of soundcard. Bass is bit flat though.

Most likely yes. But dedicated amplifier is always better than mere opamp-chip based small circuit on soundcard.

Though you need to remember that you are talking to audiophiles here...

Every little improvement is considered huge.

HD595s because they don't need an amp to sound good, AND they're extremely comfortable for long-term sessions and they've single-ended (only one wire out of one headphone, not one for each left and right channeL) which could be an advantage.

I agree

Can you game professionally with open cans? Also, I didn't know Ultrasones were good for gaming. Is S-Logic accurate enough to position objects in aural 3D?

I have both cans. When thinking about gaming, i would recommend the 595's. Imo the 650 is too revealing for gaming. I think the majority of sounds in games are not recorded well.. And not speaking about ventrillo or ts

I've been experimenting with my HD600's in TF2 the last two days and I still don't like them for gaming at all. In dustbowl, if you are attacking and are standing at the one way gate, with my HD600's I have a very hard time trying to figure out where the sentries are based only on sound. With my V6's I have a much better idea.

That being said, I've never heard the 595's so they might actually be worse.

EDIT : Small sidenote, TF2 is an absolutely incredible game. I started playing at 8pm and when I looked at the clock again, it was 5am. I haven't done that since SSBM.
