HD595 "cold", "harsh", "odd bass"?

I think I prefer the HD595 to the HD580 overall, but if the DT880 you are talking about is the 2006 version, then the DT880 is probably the better choice. I've only heard the 250 Ohm version of the 2006 DT880 though.

Also, you should not trust stores to make the headphones sound good. I've been to stores that use such crappy source that their Grado SR125 sounded like crap (much much worse than my KSC75).

True.

In a high-end store in a New York state suburb, they hooked up a Stax electrostatic headphone
to a cheap $100 receiver. I said to the sales lady that it sounded thin, hard, and brittle. She looked
at me like I must have been nuts and said, "but these headphones are the best there are"! She
didn't have a clue what the crappy receiver was doing to the sound.

The 32 ohm Beyer DT880 is offered as an option on their latest model.

Since a lot of people have given the HD595 high praise, I'm inclined to believe that the system I listened to them in was somehow "adjusted" incorrectly (compromised) for the HD595.

The only thing that has me still wondering though is the high praise that some people are giving the Goldring DR150 while giving the HD595 low praise. What is going on in their situation I wonder?
