Having similar thoughts as OP, but my 580s are perfectly functional. What is better bang for buck, upgrading to 600s or spending similar dollars for a cable upgrade? I tend not to hear a difference in PCs and ICs and speaker cable, fwiw.

You can buy another cable from Sennheiser for pretty cheap or build a simple one yourself, if you don't think you can hear the difference between expensive cables and decent cables.
