I know this is not news but I was pleasantly surprised when I got the couple of pairs I ordered for fun. These headphones are pretty good. I am using a 650 cable on one of them and a 580/600 cable on the other. My question is what would be the most ideal cable for the 580's? My 650's like the Equinox and my 600 like the Cardas. This is what works best but what's been known to be really good on the 580's. I am expecting a Zu Mobius cable and would appreciate advice on where that cable would best be placed.
Thanks,

580's not bad? Shocking!

I had a pair a while ago, I wish I had kept them, they are truly classics!

My advice vis a vis cables: quit obsessing and listen to the music!

The cables that came stock will not sound different enough from the cables that cost 20x as much to justify the cost.

just my opinion of course, YMMV, etc...

Dear Mitchb:
I have owned HD 580 Jubilees for many moons. Recently upcabled them with SAA Equinox and was very pleased with the result. Since the Sennheiser's are easy to connect, try your different cables and let us know what you think.

If you like the Cardas with your HD600's... you should like it with your HD580's... since they have identical driver / elements. Although, the plastic grill might make the HD580 a bit darker, unless you upgrade them to the HD600 grills - in which case you might want a silver cable.

My HD580's have been upgraded, and they sound identical to my HD600's with the Cardas cable.

kramer5150, I think the 650 cable is OK too. In fact the 580/600 cable even has it's charms. The 650 cable is better. The Cardas is nice and the Equinox mates well with my 650's but not my 600's as much. The Cardas are for the 600's and I suppose the 580's as well. I tried them on a pair of 580'sand they sounded good but the phones were still new and are only still burning in. I am hoping the Zu cable will mate well with the 580's giving me a few different flavors. As I have 2 pairs of 580's I think the 2nd pair will be left with the 650 cable. I will experiment with the Zu when they arrive. I am tempted top get a third pair of 580's as for the price you get a good sennheisser headphone. In good company with the 600's and 650's. I beleive them in that league. At $150 a pair I figure that to be a good deal.

He probably meant their average used price; they're discontinued and have been for long enough that I know of no New (not-so-) Old Stock sources.
