HD580 + amp for under $200?

To get the best out of the HD600 you would still need an amp.

To be perfectly correct about the whole situation the HD580/600 can be used without an amp. It's not that bad. Do they sound better with an amp, absolutely but it's not like they don't make a sound without one.

As to the difference between the 580/600 and whether or not it's worth $100, again this is the subject of much debate and I'd say you could read till you're blue in the face and never get a majority to say one way or the other. If you've only got funds for the 580s just buy them, they'll sound better than any other headphone you've heard. And don't let the upgrade hungry folks around here convince you that you need more more more. The 580s are great cans.

I'd say stay with the 580's and save the money ......

Yes, it will make them sound better than no amp at all.
