I just ordered both of these based on recommendations, but have also heard other people say the sound card does nothing for the hd558's and that I should get a more expensive one or that they don't need one at all.
 
Was my choice right and should I stick with it or should I send back the sound card and do something else? I'm looking for good sound for music and gaming and also want something that isn't going to have anything less then decent bass to it as well. I was thinking about going with the xonar essence stx but thats about $150 more then then xonar dg and my budget is kind of tight right now.

The Asus Xonar DG can improve headphone audio quality over a motherboard's built in audio.
The older or lower costing the motherboard is, the better chance the DG will make a noticeable improvement.
