ive been eyeing the hd595's for a few months now, but moneys tight, so no go on $250 for phones. i got $150 for my burthday this past week and started considering the hd555. ive got a headroom micro desktop modual. any thoughts on these phones?
im looking for perhaps more realistic bass than my dt660's, the bass just doesnt seem to blend with the rest of the music. i think theres a low mid roll off on the response curve, because the mids just dont connect to the bass at all.
however, i do enjoy the level of bass these put out, but would enjoy a little more punch, if possible.

these are just some flaws that ive found over time, and have really started bothering me, and i think the hd555/595 would be moving in the right direction

thoughts ?

Yes. Definitely worth it. If you're after neutrality and smoothness, it's hard to find anything better at its price range...save for the HD 580 of course.

I would actually suggest the 580, since you already have a very good amp, and I think the 580 is one level higher than the 555. It sounds more liquid. Both 580 and 555 have what I would call "natural" bass.

i should have specified that im interested in the way sennheiser positions the drivers in the 5x5 series. im into gaiming and i need superb directional queues from headphones. id like to see if this directed driver idea works at all in gaming. also, im attracted to the claims of comfort from the 555.

Then the 555 sounds perfect.

Excellent gaming headphones - I used 555s for months of FPS gaming. For music, 595s are better; get them if you can afford them. For gaming, though, there's no real difference IMO 555 vs 595.

The directional queues are good - I doubt they are exceptional though against others at this price point. I know they're probably out of budget but FYI the 600s are much better at the directional stuff; I can play Doom 3 with my eyes closed ;D

555/595 are, at least for me, incredibly comfortable. Even more comfortable than 600/650. Another benefit is that an amp is just a quality upgrade - not a necessity.

Make sure you get a 50 ohm pair - not a harder to drive, 120 ohm pair.

Looking to demo the HD555 and HD595 myself this week at J&R in Manhattan

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...Fencoding=UTF8

J&R carries them for less than the above number...by a whopping 78 cents! They also don't charge tax (since I am not in NY) and have free shipping. J&R rocks, must be nice to actually be able to walk into their store. Too bad I live on the other side of the country!

Look on ebay you can get the HD595s for under $140 if you're patient and the Hd555s for under $90 plus shipping, for gaming thouhg Iwould stick with the Hd555s and save your cash for something else.
