HD497?

OutsideWorld, my bad. I got the impression that the cables weren't removable because Sennheiser made no initial claims. But now you set the cord straight, D-OH! The HD4n7-series headphones sound just as bad as most of the headphones supplied with portable gear (in U.S.-market portables), and the cable connection at the earpieces may develop the very same intermittence problems as older Sennheiser models that used the very same Y-connection at both earpieces. Bad sound, poor reliability. Gyah. I hate that combo!

Fiddler, here's my take on the HD500: it's like listening to music through a seashell

But the 495's look better imo, so if they sound the same then you're fine.

Gyah. I was wrong about the HD4#7 series headphones. There are now four such models: HD437, HD457, HD477 and HD497. I bought the HD497 a few days ago, and for the price they kick @$$! (Even from a gutless portable - only the Grado SR-60 edges out the HD497 in that application.) The lower models in the HD4#7 line sound a bit boomy compared to the HD497 - so that once you get down to the $29.99 HD437 and the $39.99 HD457, you better be listening only to pop, rock and R&B with those low-end HD4#7 series 'phones.

About the models in the HD4#7 series...

They are better than PX series (PX100/PX200)?

Specially I am interested in the comparison with the pX200.

Thanks.

Nothing sticks out at you with the HD 497. (Though the sound is a little grainier and honkier than higher-priced models from Sennheiser.)

As for the PX #00 series, I currently own only the PX 200, which is quite bass-shy on my ears. The PX 100 has more bass, almost as much as the Koss Porta-somethings, and better mids and slightly recessed highs compared to the 'good' Koss portables.
