For Sennheiser PX 100 portable headphones:

Hi, I read on another thread today that some people like take the HD414 pads (yellow ones) and put them on the PX 100 headphones. A couple of people referred to a "quarter mod".

What exactly is a quarter mod?

What does the HD414 pad do to the sound of the PX 100 when replacing the stock pad?

Thank you.

I have the PX 100, and HD 580. I find the HD 580s more relaxed and detailed, but of course the HD 580 are not portable and they require the volume at almost 100% on an ipod or Sansa Clip. Does the HD414 with "quarter mod" make the PX 100s a little more relaxed sounding? More detailed at all?

The quarter mod simply involves placing a quarter in the centre of the pad and cutting around it.

Usually for the likes of grados, the cut end is put on against the driver leaving the factory cut edge against your ear.
