Hey guys, first time poster here. Been reading these forums for the last couple of days and I quite like it

Anyway, I've decided to delve into the world of heaphones

I was looking at a set of Senns HD215's (Sennheiser USA - HD215 - Product Details)

Primarily I game, and I was just wondering how well these phones do positional sounds (ie. creative's CMSS [virtual surround]).

The store I will probably end up buying from is Headphonic | Australian Headphone Specialists: Buy Etymotic, Alessandro, Audio Technica, Ultimate Ears, Talisman, Meier Audio and more (I'm Australian).

Just wondering if anybody has any feedback or gaming experience with these headphones. Budget is $120(AUD) atm. If it's worth waiting a few weeks my budget will be more. Don't wanna go to high though. Thanks

First, welcome to Head-Fi and sorry about your wallet.

Second, the 215 is a mediocre headphone at best, so hold off. I don't game, but others will chime in here with suggestions. I think you'll be able to find a better option for a similar price.

Also, they must be circum-aural and have some nice bass to them. They only hadphones I do own are a $50 pair of Plantronics audio 100's (closed). I've never listened to a decent set of open-ear cans either. (either type are suitable for me). Thanks

I see that your budget may be hard to meet at that store. Another suggestion would be to check out the For Sale board here. People are often willing to ship to Oz and there are a bunch of Australian members who may be able to help out.

Phones I often see recommended for gaming are the Audio Technica A900, Beyerdynamic DT 770, and Sennheiser HD 555 or 595. Also, if you do a search here on "gaming" (or the like), you'll find a good deal of information.

I've been doing those game searches for the last few days

the DT 770's & A900's are way out of my price range. Also I've heard the 595's require an amp for full potential. I'm seriously considering the 555's, however I've heard alot about it lacking bass, or am I mistaken in this?

We have a gaming headphone, the HD515 G4ME, that will probably suit you better. Now, if you need a CLOSED headphone, check out the HD201 G4ME. The HD215 has smooth mid's and treble, but anemic bass response for music, gaming and movies.
